Lagoon’s history is intimately linked to its marine environment and the Beneteau Group is committed to preserving it every day. In recent years, we have taken a big step forward in terms of sustainability, to offer you catamarans that are always more environmentally friendly.
New environmental certifications
Our production sites in Vendée, France (Belleville-sur-Vie and Poiré-sur-Vie), are ISO 9001, ISO 50001 and ISO 14001 certified. These are standards of quality, environmental management and energy performance. The Bordeaux site in France, officially certified in 2023, will allow Lagoon catamarans to be produced using a more virtuous and sustainable construction model.
Sustainable raw materials
The new Lagoon 51 was created to meet the requirements of the newest generation of owners. We have thus created a catamaran that is elegant, comfortable and innovative in its design. Our wood is sourced from FSC-certified forests and the upholstery is made entirely of recycled materials. As soon as we’re able, we’ll start replacing fiberglass with hemp fiber, which is more environmentally friendly.
In terms of composites, our R&D department continues to work on improvements in order to offer environmentally-friendly raw materials, while ensuring the quality and reliability of our boats is a priority. The bridge structure and the hulls are made by vacuum infusion, a process that guarantees weight gain, better composite quality and thus allows us to reduce our environmental impact.
Eco-friendly solutions on board
Our goal is to help our customers demonstrate the right behavior when sailing and mooring. Our teams have integrated XXL solar panels on the roof of the new Lagoon 51, providing more than 3,400 watts of energy to operate the onboard facilities. To support this approach, we provide boat maintenance kits that are 100% ecological and biodegradable.
Hybrid propulsion: significant investments in research and development
Our Research and Development department is working hard to test different solutions, in order to offer electrical alternatives on our boats, without impairing their ability to travel around the world.
Supporting sustainable initiatives
In order to move in the right direction, we want to highlight partners like Escape to Nature or Anima Mundi, who, each in their own way, are involved in building a cleaner maritime world.
Escape to Nature, an expert in filmmaking, is planning to sail aboard a Lagoon 55, for 8 months, to film an adventure and thus share scientific data on the underwater world with the general public. This initiative highlights the beauty of our planet and makes it possible to unveil the areas endangered by climate change. Discover the boat’s route right here.
With Anima Mundi, we want to create the first comprehensive database of plastic waste found on our coasts. Regardless of where they are, Lagoon owners are invited to become a member of this exciting project by mapping coasts around the world via the use of a drone. The goal: to obtain a precise picture of the pollution on our coasts and its evolution. Find out more about our partnership by clicking here.
At every stage of a catamaran’s life, Lagoon is committed to working hand in hand with its teams and distribution network to keep the Sailing for change commitments on course and thus preserve your dream destinations.
