GOïOT SYSTEMS have launched a generalized recall campaign due to a risk relating to escape hatches delivered before September 2018 that could jeopardize the safety of navigation.
The search for reliability and safety for our customers in the construction of our boats has always been a priority objective for Lagoon.
For 12 years we have been equipping our catamarans with GOïOT fixed hatches. Recently we have become aware of a few rare cases where the glazing has away from the aluminum frame, with the result that water has been able to enter the boat.
This is why Lagoon has set up a procedure and has put a technical team at your disposal to organize making these panels safe, and to answer your questions. The dedicated team can be contacted at the following email address: Lagoon19009@cnb.fr
Answers to your questions:
Which boats are concerned by this press release?
This operation only concerns catamarans built between 2007 and 2019 inclusive and equipped with GOïOT fixed-panel escape hatches.
How do I find out if my boat is concerned?
Contact the nearest Lagoon dealer in your sailing area.
If necessary, a Lagoon team has been dedicated to this issue, and can be reached at the following e-mail address: Lagoon19009@cnb.fr
Why has there been a recall for these products?
The current safety standards applicable to catamarans require that they be equipped with emergency evacuation systems for use in the event that they capsize and overturn. Since 2007, we have been fitting GOïOT brand fixed hatches, made of “Securit” glass glued to an aluminum frame that is screwed to each hull. In the event of the boat overturning, the glass panel must be broken to allow the evacuation of its occupants.
We have become aware of a few cases where the glass has become detached from its aluminum frame, causing water to enter the boat. This has shown that these escape hatches do not have a safety system to prevent the glass from falling out in the event of detachment.
Is it necessary to replace the entire panel?
No, this is not necessary, but it is essential to make them safe them to prevent any risk in the event of the glass coming away from the frame.
What exactly does the intervention consist of?
Together with our supplier, GOïOT, Lagoon have developed holding parts that are easily fitted to secure these escape hatches by holding the glass in the event of the glazing becoming detached.
Is it the same escape hatch for all brands of catamarans?
These hatches are manufactured by the same supplier, but may be of different designs. The model installed by Lagoon is a fixed GOIOT panel, made of “Securit” glass glued to an aluminum frame and screwed to each hull. In the event of the boat overturning, the glass panel must be broken to allow the evacuation of its occupants.
Is this intervention mandatory?
YES, Lagoon has set up our whole network to provide the necessary means to proceed as soon as possible to the modifications required to secure the hatches concerned. This intervention is free of charge for the customer.
How long does it take to make these hatches safe?
The average time taken for the intervention varies according to the model of boat, but is between 1½ and 3 hours.
What is the cost of the intervention to the client?
This intervention is free of charge for the customer. Lagoon is taking care of it, and it will preferably be carried out by our network of distributors.
Do boats have to be taken out of use?
The customer must contact Lagoon or the Lagoon dealer located in their sailing area as soon as possible. They may also contact the boatyard in charge of the maintenance of their boat in order to check the boat’s escape hatches. The Safety Kit can be sent to the customer within 48 hours.
Is there a risk to the safety of the boat?
YES: should the glazing become detached from the frame, there is a risk of sea water ingress or flooding of the boat in certain sea conditions.
